The importance of making advance reservations varies. Due to complicated logistics and reservations we need to finalize and pay for in advance concerning lodge and ferry reservations...if you don't reserve the desired Lodging Package or your Isle Royale Kayaking Adventure enough in advance we will have canceled unneeded reservations for these trips and may not be able to add you. On day tours or rentals we may be able to accommodate you as a walk-in but at other times we will be totally booked....especially peak season. Custom tours for larger groups will always need to set it up as far in advance as possible. Specific deposit and cancellation details vary for the activities linked above. Understand that making a reservation and paying the deposit will result in loss of some or all of your paid deposit if you end up canceling the reservation...Cancellation policies vary depending on which activity you are reserving....

On our half and full day tours and one and 2 day kayaking courses we require a deposit of 50%....with the balance due the day of the activity or before if you wish. We have no way to know when a reservation will be necessary but to be certain of your spot(s) you will need to sign up in advance with deposit to save your space(s). Often if you are going to be in the area for a longer period of time especially mid week, we may have one or 2 openings on some scheduled tours. If you are a group of 4 or 5 you may find we can accommodate your custom group as a walk-in, but only a reservation guarantees we will have the staff and equipment available for you. Once you do put down the deposit and we save the spot(s) you can not cancel without penalty. If you cancel before 30 days of your reservation we will refund your deposit minus a $5 service charge. After 30 days but prior to 2 weeks we will keep half of your 50% deposit....after 2 weeks you loose the entire 50% deposit...unless we are able to fill the spots we saved for you. Weather is a factor and you musts understand that we may be forced to cancel the activity due to dangerous weather conditions but you will be expected to go on the tour if not cancelled by us...even in the rain. We have discovered kayaking on days with non ideal weather still results in an enjoyable experience... Realize your guide makes the call regarding weather conditions and doesn't want to have a miserable time either so leave weather decisions up to us

If you plan to rent kayaks or other gear from us you will usually need to make an advanced reservation. Often all our boats will be in use for our guided activities or other rentals. This is especially true for rentals of multiple days...our most common rental is experienced paddlers planning their own Isle Royale trips. We have experienced paddlers rent for the day or half day occasionally as well. We do not recommend renting our coastal touring kayaks for trips into the B.W.C.A.W. as these boats...with bulkheads and hatches to pack your gear become a huge drawback at portages...you need to unpack the boat...bring an empty pack along...pack the pack...do the portage...repack the boat...at every portage. We hope to eventually offer canoe rentals but there are plenty of places to rent canoes in the area. The deposit for reserving equipment rentals is 50% with the balance due on the day you pick it up or launch from our beach. If you are to transport the kayak you should be prepared and familiar with transporting kayaks on vehicles whether you have a specialized rack or plan to use foam carriers we provide if needed. Our feeling is renters who don't know how to load a kayak on a vehicle....should be going on a guided tour !! If you need to cancel and do so before 30 days of your reservation we will refund your deposit minus a $5 service charge. After 30 days but prior to 2 weeks we will keep half of your 50% deposit....after 2 weeks you loose the entire 50% deposit.

Note we are not offering scheduled kayak/lodging packages...To arrange a lodging/kayaking experience on a custom basis. Contact us for details. For our packages, we make our lodging reservations during the winter prior to the upcoming summer season to ensure we have the needed rooms. For each of our scheduled kayak lodging packages we reserve 3 double queen rooms...non smoking with lake view. If you make a reservation for these packages and wish to have a smoking room we will try to make the switch for you. The double queen rooms are versatile..suitable for couples and those pairs wishing separate beds. Note on our lodging package page...we have both double and single occupancy rates. Note also that many who sign up reserve the room on there own for an extra night after and sometimes also a prior evening. At 2 weeks prior to our lodging packages we will finalize our room reservations. If you wish to sign up after this we will check with the lodge but rooms may not be available that weekend. On our lodging packages we require a 50% deposit to hold your reservation with the full balance due at 2 weeks prior to the check-in date. If you cancel your reservation before 2 weeks prior to the check-in date we will refund your deposit minus a $25 service charge. If you must cancel after 2 weeks prior you will loose the 50% deposit or your full trip price paid unless we are able to fill your cancelled spot(s) Note* We are an agent for TravelGuard Insurance and it is wise to protect yourself from not only any accident or medical emergencies you may have during the weekend but also evacuation costs plus coverage of any losses due to unavoidable cancellations.

Note we are not offering the guided Isle Royale Trips for 2008.... We make the Voyager II ferry reservations for a full group of 5 customers and one guide plus the 6 kayaks in January the winter before our upcoming summer season. We must finalize and pay for this ferry service more than 30 days in advance of the trip date so you need to make your reservation as soon as possible if you are interested in going on either of our 2 scheduled Isle Royale Trips. If after we finalize our ferry reservations at 30 days prior, you discover these trips and wish to go on one, we can check for openings for you and kayak, both out and back but often the ferry will be full. To make a reservation and hold your spot we require a deposit of $200 intitially with the full balance due at 45 days prior to the trip date. If you cancel prior to our finalizing the ferry reservations, we can refund your $200 deposit minus a $25 service charge. If you cancel after we finalize the ferry reservations your entire $200 deposit is forfeited to cover our expense of the non-refundable ferry ticket we reserved for you. If you are paid in full (at 45 days) and cancel up to 2 weeks prior we will refund 50% of full trip price paid. After 2 weeks prior the entire paid trip price is forfeited unless we are able to fill your canceled spot(s).
