Kayaks are amazing boats! Their history goes back further than we really know with certainty. At home on calm placid waters yet with proper skills up for the challenging conditions of open water or raging rivers. Discovering their inherint low center of gravity and active stability with the ability to brace or roll up from a capsize is worth the effort...This is what makes kayaks special...that concept of boat ~ body connection !
Kayaking has become quite popular ... largely due to the ever increasing selection of kayaks and the focus on their ease of use. Manufacturers have satisfied the demand for a less expensive..less serious boat...the recreational kayak. These kayaks are of little use for someone who plans to delve deeply into kayaking but perfect for people who want a kayak without spending that much money or time with the sport. An exciting development in recent years is the enhanced recreational kayaks creating another catagory, the sport class or day touring kayaks. These kayaks have some or all of the features of an expedition sea kayak with a shorter length and lower price.
We have since 1992 sold mainly sea kayaks and in more recent years more and more of less expensive recreational boats... and the sport class types. Presently, with efforts of diversifying what we offer we are not stocking new kayaks. We have 2 remaining boats from the 2006 season. We plan to get back into sales of boats and do still have a good selection of accessories.

Our rental program is for experienced kayakers concerning our coastal touring kayaks being paddled on Lake Superior...but we will rent to inexperienced paddlers for inland use or if you are to be accompanied by a friend with safety and rescue knowlege and skills. In addition to our Sea Kayaks we have one lightweight inflatable kayak at 17 lb that is good for carrying into remote trout lakes to find those dandy trout. We do not rent whitewater kayaks nor are our kayaks to be used for running rapids of any class or for uses such as crossings to Isle Royale. When attempting such paddling endeavors you really should own your own gear! We also do not rent recreational kayaks at this time.
