Going on a Guided Day Tour is a great way to try kayak touring for that first time. Once you decide to get into the sport...it is to your advantage to take some qualified instruction. The brief orientation at the beginning of our day tours is taken to a much deeper level with a coastal kayaking course. You'll learn about the options with equipment, paddling technique and how to deal with capsizes and other safety issues.

Why settle for a kayak class on a small warm city lake when you can get the feel and learn in the environment you want to paddle...Lake Superior.

One of the more recommended ways to learn coastal kayak touring that we offer is our North Shore Kayak Weekends. You'll spend Saturday taking the Introduction to Coastal Kayaking Course ..on Sunday we go on a Full Day Kayak Tour. We offer these as a single day option as well but most people do both days. Our kayak instruction is an American Canoe Association one day class.  We also offer Private Instruction and if you have your own group we can set up a custom course with adequate notice. Prices include use of our equipment. Rolling Sessions in the Grand Marais Pool are going to be organized by the new paddling club but are informal practice and sharing sessions .. not a rolling class.

Spend a fun 2 days learning what coastal kayaking is all about. Saturday we'll split the day between beach classroom and on the water instruction. After covering equipment options we head out to the beach and introduce the kayaks concept of boat and body connection. We explain mechanics of good paddling and bracing technique. Plenty of time is given to your learning hands-on a variety of assited and solo capsize rescue methods.

Sunday you'll practice what you've learned on Satuday while we explore one of our full day kayak tour destinations. The marine forecast and Lake conditions will dictate where we go.....Tettegouche or Pigeon Bay.

This-one day course is a great introduction for those planning to get into coastal kayaking. Most of the class is in kayaks on the water and covers equipment, paddling technique, rescues and other safety topics. These intro course are the Saturday only option of our North Shore Kayak Weekends. If you have the time taking the 2 day weekend is well worth it to take what you've learned on Saturday and experience one of our Full Day Kayak tours.

The fastest way to deal with a capsize is to roll back up. These pool sessions are for paddlers who want to practive their rolls in the comfort of a heated pool. The sessions are open to anyone joining the East Bay Beach Paddling Club. You should have your own boat (clean) and know how to roll. In addition to these late winter pool sessions, the club will gather for practice and sharing rolling technique at times during the summer on inland lakes.

If you're interested in actual kayak rolling lessons.. contact us to hire an instructor and rent a kayak for these pool sessions. Date to be announced soon... Should be in March.

Cost ........ Per Person  

Cost depending on how many people sign up for these club pool sessions.. Pool rental is $45 per hour.. We plan to rent for a 2 hour session... so $90 divided by number of paddlers.

Many people prefer private instruction which can be a version or our one day introduction to coastal kayaking or by the hour to work on specifics.. paddling technique, rescues, rolling, etc. The rates below include all the equipment needed. 2 hours private instruction for new boat purchasers...

Groups of 4 or more can also set up a private North Shore Kayak Weekend or an Introduction to Kayak Course...
