Winter for Superior Coastal Sports is in the transition of being historically a summer kayak business to a new year around retail store with instore coffee shop/internet cafe. We may add guided ski tours and snowshoe hikes but for now... it is just our store and internet cafe. We plan to carry more winter clothing and snowshoes which we will also have available for rent. We also plan to partner in the winter with Devils Track Nordic Ski Center which is located on the Pincushion Nordic Ski Trails justs above Grand Marais. The one thing I contemplate is of course organizing travel paddling adventures to warm tropical places. Where would you like to go?

One of the most enjoyable, unique, and beautiful kinds of ski tours on Lake Superior's north shore is river skiing. If we were to offer guided ski tours it would likely be river skiing. RIver skiing is not for someone just taking up cross country skiing but is not really that extreme either. Much of the river is not that steep but some of the steeper areas and gorges are fairly challenging as these constricted stretches sometimes have spots you would not want to fall...as in open water or fragile ice. Even most of these kinds of places will have easier...places to pass...but some require you to ski right next to an open pool at the bottom of the pitch. Light touring equipment is not what you want...as rivers are definitely backcountry skiing.
